I had high hopes for the support group and wanted it to be a success. I really enjoyed the people and the discussions. The support group would have been an even greater success if the leaders would have been on the same page. It really pulls at my heart strings to see that the group is not what it was meant to be. I just wish I would have been informed on alot of things near the end of my departure as leader and founder of the group name and original designer of the group logo. I am not angry but sad that my co-leader did not inform me on what was going on or that she didn't tell me that she wanted to go solo and be leader instead of seeing the support group as a great way of reaching out and helping others. The group has dwindled and alot of my followers will not attend since I am not there. Hopefully the group will see success anyways because I trulely believe in the power of being with others with the same struggles.
AS for us----My baby is doing so good. I use to say there was good days and bad days but now all we see are good days. A trace is all that autism shows now. I still continue to research recovering autism because it can be achieved I have seen it .

Asperger Chewing

My son is constantly chewing on the front of shirts and practically eating them! I have heard that they have chewing devices out there, I am curious if anyone knows where I can buy some that don't require adult supervision the entire time they are using them.

LOL how funny my son does the same thing it has gotten better, but he will actually chew holes in his shirt and the entire front is soaked! Gets pricey too :) The speech therapist had suggested we use chewey cords. This can be like the coil type key chains that you see people wearing on their wrists (this worked good for us)or ummm these pieces of tubing that comes in different thicknessess which I am not sure where these can be bought from, (we got ours from speech paths) but you can go to www abilitations.com, and they have several oral motor sensory items. I guess I can't say the site does, but I know the catalog does. My son actually likes just chewing on a plain old cheap toothbrush with nothin on it. The dentist likes that too because it kind of helps his teeth and he will chew on a toothbrush , but hates having his teeth brushed. They also have said to use like the battery type toothbrushes that vibrate or they have what they call oral massagers thru the above site. This is a pretty normal thing I think, What I am struggling with now is he will chew his fingers to the nub litterally, but in 2nd grade in a typical classroom he knows that nobody else has chewy things so he sticks with what he always has with him. Also his surroundings make a huge difference in how much he chews. hope this helps

My husband and I applied for Family Assistance Support Payments a few months ago to help pay for some of Gage's expenses and I just recently found out that the waiting list is about a year and a half. Has anyone else had any experience with this and I was also curious on thoughts about trying to get him social security. I have no clue where to get help for my son, he is receiving soonercare so some of his services are paid for, but if you know soonercare you know they don't cover everything. Thanks in advance!

I have found a website with some really unique behavior charts that I use for both of my boys, one NT and one with aspergers. The charts have some of the popular cartoon characters so kids can get excited about them. I offer my children rewards at the end of the week if they fill up at least 2/3 of the chart with stickers.
